A small contingent of building professionals representing the United States, Canada, and Sweden, gathered in Pine Island, Minnesota in early 1982 to develop criteria for the construction of buildings that were more energy efficient. These forward-thinking pioneers created the Energy Efficient Building Association.
Over the years, the organization grew as the impact the building industry had on the environment was recognized. An unmatched understanding of building science was embraced. EEBA members committed to be good stewards of the resources used in the construction of residential and light commercial buildings.
From this commitment and members' expertise, EEBA climate-specific criteria was developed. The criteria provided a blueprint, based on regional climatic conditions, for improved building performance and quickly became the industry's leading document detailing the systems approach to new construction.
Through expanded educational venues, strong national alliances and a broad-based network of partners, EEBA meets the rapidly increasing educational and informational needs of the building science industry.
In 2008, the organization modified its name to the Energy and Environmental Building Alliance, to reflect strong partnerships and a commitment to advance common objectives and interests in sustainable building.
EEBA continues to drive market transformation with strong partnerships that allow our members and community to learn, share and collaborate. We are committed to a future that is more resource-efficient, promotes health and wellness and resilience and honors equity and diversity.
