Technical Specialist ICF

To support our growth in technical building and energy efficiency analytics, we are seeking a technical specialist to support our Residential Energy Efficiency team. A successful candidate will contribute to the development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff. The selected candidate will support our energy efficiency team working with the U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR Certified Homes program, and other government and private sector clients.
The Residential Energy Efficiency team supports federal, state, and local government clients through planning, analysis, and implementation of energy efficiency programs. The team’s work is grounded in high-quality analysis to give clients confidence that their programs deliver cost-effective savings. Building off the analytical base, the team communicates program requirements and policies through program documents, training materials, presentations (in-person and virtual), and answering partner questions. The team then helps clients successfully implement and evolve programs through maintaining relationships with and outreach to key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpreting sustainable design practices (e.g., ENERGY STAR, LEED)
  • Assessing and summarizing model energy codes and standards (e.g., IECC, ASHRAE, RESNET)
  • Performing in-depth analysis using spreadsheets, databases and Visual Basic functions
  • Developing and implementing program strategies, preparing and presenting persuasive presentations, relationship building activities, research and analysis of energy efficiency and industry issues and corresponding with industry and government representatives.
  • Conduct outreach to builders and Home Energy Raters to provide sales training and marketing tools that effectively communicate benefits of EPA’s voluntary home-labeling programs.
  • Review technical inquiries and provide formal written recommendations to EPA on program revisions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering, Building Science, or related subject
  • 3-5 years of related residential or commercial energy efficiency work experience
  • Detail-oriented with proven quality control / quality assurance of work products
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with ability to communicate complex technical issues
  • Experience working with technical, analytical and marketing-oriented clients

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Ability to analyze residential and/or commercial building systems using energy modeling tools (e.g., REM/Rate, Ekotrope, EnergyGauge, BEopt, EnergyPlus, etc.)
  • Green building experience or certifications are a plus (HERS Rater, LEED, BPI, etc.)
  • Knowledge of building construction methods, mechanical systems, and related energy use
  • Professional work experience or internships related to energy efficiency

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information

  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
  • Ability to be flexible to handle multiple priorities

Summary:  The Director of Construction’s role is to increase the number of projects that Deltec successfully builds by developing and executing a comprehensive construction strategy.

Job Summary:  This is no ordinary construction executive role!  Deltec seeks to build upon its premier reputation as a home builder of choice and seeks a director of construction that has the drive, ambition, and vision to take Deltec to its next level in pursuit of excellence.  The director of construction is the champion of Deltec’s long-term growth plan as Deltec seeks to achieve its vision to change the way the world builds.

Role & Responsibilities:  Make Deltec the best in the business by any measure, by:

  • Leading the development of a new customer-centered strategy that allows Deltec to provide turnkey construction operations throughout the entire Southeast US within five years.  The overarching purpose of this strategy is to increase the success rate of our customers from beginning to end by offering a one-stop solution.
  • Building the team necessary to accomplish the company’s strategic goals, even under adversity.
  • Creating and managing the process by which we build so that we can repeatably deliver excellence.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the new turnkey division to assure the best use of resources, maintain cash flow and financial stability, and create above-average profits.
  • Developing and managing a shell set operation to serve all customers throughout the Southeast.  This may be an in-house team or a sub-contracted team, and they will be the experts at efficiently and expertly constructing the Deltec structure.
  • Expanding our builder network and supporting builder partners so that they prefer to build a Deltec over any other home because it is simple, well-organized, and profitable. 
  • Managing and using builder and homeowner feedback to regularly improve our product, delivery process, and support process, as well as to ensure a world-class customer experience.
  • Utilizing our mastery of the Deltec construction process to reduce the variability in project costs for us and our homeowners.
  • Overseeing the Asheville-based construction team (“Deltec Building Company” or “DBC”) to deliver homes that surpass our customers’ expectations in every way.  Utilize DBC to set the example and provide proof of concept as appropriate.
  • Providing world-class support to Deltec’s PODs (cross-functional teams who handle sales, design, and project management) to enable them to exceed customer expectations.
  • Incorporating best practices from Building Science into the construction process so that Deltec is an industry leader in sustainable construction. 

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication skills: in person, on the phone, on video calls, in writing
  • Minimum of (7) years’ experience in construction industry, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in strategic planning at the company level is highly preferred
  • Experience working with regional or national builders preferred
  • Green building credentials such as EEBA site super designation, HERS associate designation, LEED AP, and/or other building science experience preferred.
  • Thirst for learning and building self-awareness and mastery.
